Women Hero's - Past


Women in Military Service is nothing new. These incredible strong willed ladies served our country long before they could vote! Some dressed up as men just so they might get a chance to defend our nation. These heroes are specially decorated in desert tan, camouflage, green, white and all shades of blue. These women are more then just nurses, pilots, drivers, clerks, they are soldiers.

  • During the American Revolution Mary Ludwig spent hours-carrying water to men. She was nicknamed Molly Pitcher. When Molly's husband was injured she took over his position in battle.

  • During the War of 1812 Lucy Brewer served three years on "Old Ironsides".

  • During the Civil War period Dr. Mary Walker became the first women doctor in the army. Mary was commissioned as a second lieutenant in 1864.

  • Freda Mae Greene Hardin entered the Navy in Sept of 1918 and fought during World War 1.

  • Lt Kara Spears Hultgreen was one of the first US Navy female combat pilots.

  • Jane Delano Second Superintendent of Army nurses Corps.

  • Juliet Hopkins "Florence Nightingale of South" During the civil war

 

Women Hero's - Present


  • Lieutenant Colonel Eileen Collins: the first women pilot of a space ship!
  • Master Gunnery Sergeant Glenda Burly who joined the corps in 1977
  • Brigadier General  Linda J. Stierle who entered airforce in 1970
  • Kelly Flinn who stood up against harassment and proved women in all services deserve the highest degree of respect from men.
